3008 2.0 HDi Hybrid 4 2015 - C1555 Handbrake Fault

Post by harrywillis » Thu Oct 15, 2020 7:19 am

Our car has developed a problem with the electronic handbrake. While parked on a fairly steep upward hill at traffic lights, we used the handbrake switch to apply the brakes. Warning lights on dashboard saying brake failure and the only way to keep the car from rolling back was to use the foot brake. Problem has been intermittent, occasionally working, but more often than not, we get warning message and little brake symbol flashes red constantly.

We've had the car in to two different garages for diagnosis and they both come up with a code C1555, one garage told us it was "Fault in the activation / deactivation control of the electric parking brake. Short circuit to positive or short circuit to earth". The other said it was "Parking brake button line fault".

It seems that the brakes do get applied after the warning is displayed, and i suspect that there is either a fault with the handbrake switch, or, a sensor that reports the brakes being applied.

This has occurred after getting a service at Peugeot dealer over a month ago, and then getting front brake discs and front / rear pads changed at our local (non Peugeot) garage a few weeks ago. Neither the dealer or local garage seem interested in the problem, which is more than a little bit annoying.

Has anyone any experience of the C1555 fault code and handbrake issues?

So after looking around on internet, I found a few people who had similar issues with handbrake. Not necessarily on Hybrid model, but same handbrake(?). Led to finding coupled of youtube videos showing how to change the handbrake switch on the centre console. Simple enough to change. Found lot of places selling the switch on eBay and Amazon. Ordered from Amazon and came two days later (from Italy!). Fitted in minutes and tested it. Worked. No handbrake faults and brakes working ok.
