Noise when reversing

My 3008 1.6l Allure petrol AUTO has just suddenly started making a very noticeable noise coming from the engine/transmission area but only when reversing. It's a bit difficult to describe. It not really a constant grating or grinding noise, but definitely sounds like some sort of mechanical problem.
Apart from this the car seems to run as designed. Engaging reverse is no problem and the car reverses no problem apart from this noise. No fault lights are showing.

Any ideas anyone and until I can get it seen to by a dealer does it sound like it is OK to use?

Thanks

I used to get a drone or groan noise when I had a 2017 Allure 1.6 bluehdi auto. Eventually the noise disappeared. It happened immediately after selecting reverse but also with a very slight turn of the steering wheel. I thought it was maybe from the brakes?

I rang the dealership as the car is still under warranty but due to the C19 situation they could look at it for another month. I identified the noise was coming from the front nearside wheel so I decided to check to see if there was anything obvious. It turned out the fault was a stone chipping wedged between the inside of the dis cand the disc cover.
Very easy to fix. I slackened the bolts off the guard and removed the stone with a plastic 12 inch rule.

I hope this helps anyone who has a similar problem in the future
