Hello, I'm seriously looking at buying my first 3008 SUV (2nd hand) which would be automatic and probably petrol. Deciding from reviews alone is tough as experts do not drive every engine in an automatic which may yield very different results to a manual diesel. Welcome your thoughts on the following

1) Is 1.2 turbo too underpowered for an automatic gearbox? (highly recommended by experts as manual option)

2) How do people find the EAT6 automatic gearbox in their petrol car (jerky? any issues?) and how much better is the EAT8, worth the extra money?

The 1.2 EAT6 is definitely not underpowered. It has a Sport button which delays the upchange but I have never used it as the normal results are really good. The EAT6 is not jerky as it is a torque converter box and NOT an automated manual. I have no knowledge of the EAT8 but apart from expense I suspect it is superb. When you buy second hand just be sure that you are getting the EAT6 and not the automated manual which is far from good as you will see on this forum if you delve into it. Best of luck.

3008 SUV (2nd gen.) has never been produced with automated manual, only with MAN6, EAT6 and EAT8. 1.2 PureTech is great engine for 3008, I have it with manual transmission. I also have EAT6 but on 508 1.gen with diesel and it is very good transmission. I tried 3008 with 1.2 puretech and EAT6 and was working fine but my wife definitely prefers manual transmission so I choose manual. When you buy 1.2 or 1.6 petrol from second hand, please change motor oil as often as possible. No more than 15.000km. I have service plan of 25.000km but I changed oil at 12.000 and next will be at 25.000.

You are quite right but Simon08 doesn'i state what year he is looking at hence my concern, he should be careful to ignore the EGC 'autobox'

What technology using in EAT gearbox? Is this same as dual clutch?

I think the EAT gearboxes are torque converter type but with electronic wizardry. I'm amazed at how how economic my 1.6 BlueHDi is, with mid 60's mpg on long runs.

My comments may be a bit late but.....
I have had several cars with the VAG DSG gearbox.
I currently have a new 3008 1.6 with the EAT 8 box and a 2008 1.2 petrol with the EAT 6 box and I prefer them to the DSG.
The 1.2 is truly amazing which we have had for 12 months..... I’ve had the 3008 for about a month and it’s even better....
Initially I was unsure about going from a DSG box to a non DSG but needn’t have worried, they are excellent...... I wouldn’t have bought the 3008 EAT8 if I didn’t find the 2008 EAT6 so smooth.
